Classic Victor Dog Food
The Victor Classic line of dog food provides balanced nutrition for dogs that are active. It has high levels of quality protein, and it is designed to help promote healthy digestion and immune systems.
Victor Hi-Pro Plus
The Hi-Pro Plus contains a variety of different proteins, including beef, chicken, fish, and pork. It has 30% protein and 20% fat. Due to its high levels of protein, it is great for very active dogs, growing puppies, and even nursing females. All the grains included in this formula are gluten-free to help prevent reactions from possible allergies.
While there are a lot of dogs that can benefit from this formula, it is not suitable for overweight dogs due to the high protein levels. Also, it does not provide any benefits to joint health, so dogs that are prone to joint issues should select a different formula.
Victor High Energy
As the name suggests, this formula is designed specifically for dogs with a lot of energy, likely those that get over an hour of exercise each day. It is made with beef, chicken, and pork. It has 24% protein and 20% fat in its recipe. This food helps to sustain a dog’s energy and improve their stamina and endurance.
Since this formula is similar to the Hi-Pro recipe, it also best for the most active dogs. However, this means that overweight dogs or dogs with low energy levels would not do well with this formula. This one is also primarily suited for adult dogs. Also, this recipe does not help potential joint problems or dogs with grain allergies.
Victor Multi-Pro
The Multi-Pro formula is ideal for dogs that get a regular amount of exercise each day. It has 22.5% protein and 10% fat. Beef, chicken, and pork are the primary proteins used in it. Similar to the other classic formulas, Multi-Pro has essential vitamins and minerals, along with gluten-free grains.

Ingredients in Victor’s Recipe
Every dog food brand consists of different ingredients. While every Victor formula is slightly different, there are some ingredients that are included in nearly every option. Many of the significant ingredients are good quality items, but some are also considered controversial.
Good Ingredients
- Beef Meal
Beef meal is considered a meat concentrate. This means that the moisture in the meat was removed before the manufacturing process began. This is good for dogs because it contains almost 300% more protein than fresh meat does.
- Chicken Meal
Chicken meal is also a meat concentrate that is high in protein. The manufacturer actually uses locally sourced chicken in their formulas as well.
- Chicken Fat
Even though humans cut fat off their chicken meat, it is actually a good ingredient for dogs. This is because it provides omega-6 fatty acids, which helps with different health aspects for dogs including improving healthy skin and hair, maintaining bone health, and regulating their metabolism.
- Pork Meal
This is another meat concentrate, similar to beef meal. It also contains more protein than fresh meat would.
- Sweet Potato
Sweet potato is actually one of the best forms of potato to give to your dog. It is gluten-free and full of complex carbohydrates. They also happen to be naturally rich in both fiber and beta carotene.
- Peas
Peas are an important ingredient in Victor formulas. They are high in both carbohydrates and fiber.
- Menhaden Fish Meal
This is another meat concentrate that is high in protein. A menhaden is a type of small ocean fish that is similar to a herring. Menhaden fish meal is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
- Garbanzo Beans
Also known as chickpeas, these vegetables are rich in fiber much like peas are. Also, they do contain about 22% protein.
Controversial Ingredients
- Tomato Pomace
Tomato pomace is a by-product of processed tomatoes, such as juice, soup, or ketchup. While it is high in fiber, many people claim that it is just an inexpensive food filler for dogs.
- Blood Meal
Blood meal can be a good source of protein, but it is a by-product of slaughter. Therefore, many people like to avoid it, but is not necessarily harmful for dogs to consume.
- Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal
Alfalfa is good for humans, but for dogs it is typically considered a cheap source of protein. It is high in fiber and protein, but it is generally used more for horse feed than dog food.
What Dogs is Victor Dog Food Best Suited for?
While Victor has a variety of different types of food and flavors, there are some dogs that will benefit from it more than others. Many of the formulas are geared specifically toward active dogs, adults, and large breeds, so these would be the best dogs to eat Victor.
There is a formula specifically for senior dogs, so older dogs would do well on that. Also, there are plenty of options for dogs with normal activity levels as well. Luckily for picky eaters there are also plenty of different basic formulas to choose from.
Which Dogs Might Do Better on a Different Brand?
While there are many formulas geared toward large active dogs, there are not much for the laid-back small breeds. Oftentimes, smaller dogs need smaller kibble pieces that are catered specifically to them, but Victor has no small breed formulas.
Also, there are very few Victor formulas that are specifically for puppies. Many puppies would also benefit from puppy-specific formulas and smaller kibble sizes. Also, dogs that are very sensitive or dogs that have allergies other than grain might have issues finding a Victor formula. Especially for dogs that are allergic to chicken, some type of chicken appears as an ingredient in almost every formula.

I absolutely love Victor dog food.
Just purchased our first bag of Victor. We have 7 very picky eaters (all large breed) and they actually eat it …. Plain. I usually have to cook or put wet food in with their dry. I was in total shock. So far very pleased
